The perfect rental property can take a while to find, so when you do find it you want to ensure that you are doing everything possible to make it yours. We have come up with the three most vital points (in our opinion) that will ensure that you are giving yourself the best chance of getting the rental of your choice.
– Be polite, friendly, and organised when enquiring with the agent/landlord. Introduce yourself with a smile, and make sure that you have all relevant documents with you to provide with the application such as identification, proof of income, reference details, etc. (Our application forms have a list of all documents that are required).
– Fill in the application form thoroughly, making sure that every field is completed. All persons over the age of 18 will need to complete the form. The more information that you put on your application, the better. If anything is left blank it could be a disadvantage to your application.
– References are vital. Our application forms ask for two rental references, however if you have more, feel free to supply them on an attached piece of paper. We also ask for two private references – try to use people who have been in your home or people you work with, so that we can get the most accurate reference as possible. Private references are essential to first-time renters, as you won’t have any rental history.
It is important to remember that the final decision of every application is made by the landlord. Unfortunately if your application is not approved, we are unable to give you a reason for this. Sometimes if you are a first-time renter it can be difficult to find a landlord who will give you a chance, and so you might need to start in a more basic home, and get a good reference behind you so that you can work your way up.
