If you are an animal lover, chances are that the time might come when you would like to introduce a furry friend to the family. Pets can provide unconditional love, company, and security to your home. However, if you are renting a property, there are a few things you need to consider before running out and finding your newest family member.

–        First and most importantly; you NEED to have written permission from your agent or landlord before you get a pet. Contact your agent/landlord and ask for a pet lease agreement.

–        Contemplate the size of your yard when deciding on a breed. It isn’t fair to expect a large animal to be constricted to a small space. This will only cause boredom and result in destruction.

–        Make sure that your yard is secure for your pet. If you need to erect fencing to do this, you must get permission from your landlord first. You will need to come to an agreement as to what will happen with the fencing when your tenancy ends.

–        Be aware that while it is common for puppies or kittens to cause a little damage to their surroundings (and sometimes the property), you will be required to repair the property to its original state. Providing necessary training so that your pet learns quickly from their mistakes will keep damage to a minimum which in turn will keep your repair costs down.
